The fire code regulations for tanks in underground areas and connected piping systems were adopted by the California Building Standards Commission (CBSC) in August 2017.  They become effective July 1, 2018.  The full definition of a tank in an underground area per APSA will also become effective July 1, 2018.

For more information, visit the California Building Standards Commission website.  Details of the requirements are in the approved standards from the August 2017 CBSC meeting for the 2016 Intervening Cycle (Supplement).  Select the CAL FIRE – Office of the State Fire Marshal tab and refer to Section 7 of the final express terms in the approved amendments to the fire code (Cal. Code of Regs., Title 24, Part 9).
